Intense pilot concentration is apparent as a Curtiss F9C-2 Sparrowhawk prepares to dock onto the trapeze of its home airship, the U.S.S. Macon. Once docked, the F9C-2 is pulled inside the dirigible.

Known as parasite fighters, Sparrowhawks were launched from and returned to "host" airships, either the U.S.S. Macon or the U.S.S. Akron, effectively making them "flying aircraft carriers."
